Attendance & Absences

Regular school attendance plays an important role in supporting student learning, wellbeing and success. At Bencubbin Primary School, we encourage all students to attend school every day unless they are unwell or have an approved reason for absence.

Every day missed can impact a child’s learning and connection to school. We work closely with families to support regular attendance and positive engagement with learning.

Reporting absences

Families can notify the school of absences, late arrivals or changes to daily arrangements through Compass, which is provided to families upon enrolment. This allows parents and carers to:

  • Report student absences
  • Communicate short messages to the school
  • Update bus or pick-up arrangements

If you are unsure how to access Audiri or require assistance, please contact the school office.

Extended or planned absences

Students who are absent for three days or longer due to medical reasons are required to provide a medical certificate upon returning to school.

Any planned absences known in advance must be requested in writing and approved by the Principal. Unexplained absences are followed up in line with Department of Education requirements.

Supporting attendance

The Department of Education monitors student attendance and works with schools, families and relevant services to maximise student engagement. Where attendance concerns arise, the school will work collaboratively with families to provide support and develop appropriate strategies.

If you have concerns about your child’s attendance or require support, we encourage you to contact the school to discuss available options.
